The Hawkesbury Story:

A Heritage of Bespoke Fashion

The Vanderplank name has long been synonymous with exquisite craftsmanship and an unwavering passion for fashion, a legacy that spans centuries. My ancestors, highly skilled textile artisans from Holland, settled in England during the 1700s, bringing their renowned expertise in weaving and fabric mastery. This foundation of superior skill and dedication to quality has been passed down through the generations, fueling a deep love for art, design, and enduring elegance.

In the early 1900s, my great-grandfather and several of his siblings honed their talents through apprenticeships at the prestigious Harrods of London, mastering millinery, dressmaking, and fine tailoring. This refined expertise inspired them to establish Vanderplanks of Cheltenham, a distinguished boutique in the heart of Cheltenham, curating timeless sophistication  women's fashion for the local high society.

Innovation in fashion continued to define my heritage on the Irish side.  After World War II, my grandfather and his brother emerged as pioneers in textiles, introducing authentic American-style jeans and premium denim to Ireland for the very first time—bridging transatlantic style with lasting durability and influencing the evolution of everyday luxury.

This entrepreneurial spirit endured as my grandparents opened an elegant children's clothing boutique in the heart of Clifton, Bristol, dedicated to curating pieces of exceptional care and refinement for the next generation. The legacy deepened further when my great-uncle married into one of the foremost families behind the iconic Harris Tweed production in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland—true custodians of a handwoven tradition celebrated for its heritage, strength, and artisanal excellence.

Today, the family legacy lives on. Hawkesbury.

In my snug Hampshire studio, I handcraft each item with meticulous attention to detail, using only the finest materials and embracing slow fashion principles. My collections are designed to become treasured wardrobe staples—timeless, elegant pieces that honor the artistry and innovation of my forebears while offering modern luxury for those who appreciate the extraordinary.

When I'm not in the studio, you'll find me wandering the rolling hills and ancient woodlands of the English countryside, capturing nature's beauty through photography. These moments of immersion in the natural world fuel my creativity, inspiring subtle textures, earthy palettes, and organic forms that weave into every design.
